GATE CITY, VA Proposed Sewer Services Rate Increase
The Gate City Sanitation Authority will conduct a Public Hearing on Monday, August 7th, 2017 at 6:30 PM to gather public input on the proposed increase in sewer service rates.
The Gate City Sanitation Authority has recently been awarded funding to rehabilitate and replace 4,500 feet of 15-inch sewer lines, 3,600 feet of 12-inch sewer lines, and 1,025 feet of remaining sewer lines. The total project will cost $1,726,278.00 and Sanitation Authority will receive $700,000.00 in loan forgiveness (grant). The balance of the funding will be financed through the Virginia Resource Authority at zero percent for 25 years. The new debt retirement for the Sanitation Authority will be $41,051.12 per year and will have to be covered by the new proposed rates:
Current Rate | Proposed Rate
Minimum Rate 0-2,000 Gallons | Rate/1,000 2,000+ Gallons | Minimum Rate 0-2,000 Gallons | Rate/1,000 2,000+ Gallons
Residential | $26.68 | $8.12 | $28.85 | $9.40 |
Commercial | $26.68 | $8.12 | $29.50 | $10.95 |
The purpose of this project is to address infiltration that exists with our current sewer lines. Infiltration occurs when ground water seeps into the sanitary sewer system through cracks or leaks in sewer pipes. Currently, for every 1” of rain water, the sewer lines are collecting an additional one million gallons of waste water.
