GATE CITY, VA – Housing Rehabilitation Project – Park Street

The Town of Gate City has been awarded $522,200 the Park Street Housing Rehabilitation project from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).

Gate City was one of four Virginia communities to earn a total of $2.7 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) competitive awards.

The funds will be used to rehabilitate seven residential homes, reconstruct two residential homes, and demolition of two vacant residential structures on Park Street.

Gate City has also been awarded $40,000 in funding to complete a Town-Wide Housing Assessment. The assessment once completed will help evaluate and prioritize housing needs throughout the Town and develop an action plan to address target areas.

A management team of “key stakeholders,” including town residents, town officials, and representatives from the LENOWISCO Planning Authority developed the project which will improve the living conditions and remove blighted influences on Park Street. Public hearings, surveys, and physical needs assessments were conducted as a part of that process.

If you would like additional information about the Park Street housing rehabilitation project or have questions, please contact Greg Jones, Town Manager, at (276) 386-3831 or by email: townmanager@mygatecity.com.
