GATE CITY, VA Housing Rehabilitation Project – Park Street

by | Feb 15, 2018 | Press Releases | 0 comments

The Town is considering pursuing Virginia Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for a housing rehabilitation project in the town. The focus of this project will address the housing needs along Park Street. The housing rehabilitation project will address the dilapidated and substandard homes in this area that does not meet the Virginia Uniform Building Code.

The LENOWISCO Planning District Commission will be assisting the Town in compiling the necessary information to support the CDBG application, which will be submitted in late March. In the upcoming weeks, LENOWISCO personnel will be speaking with the residents along the Park Street area, developing cost estimates for interested and eligible households, and conducting income surveys, which are required through the CDBG program. If a resident is not interested in the housing rehabilitation project, their participation in the income survey is still critical to the project and strongly encouraged. The income survey is an important part of the CDBG grant funding application and will help determine how to approach the housing needs in the project area. All income survey information will be kept strictly confidential. LENOWISCO staff members working in the project area will include Ms. Anna Meade and Ms. Deana Stoddard, who can be reached at (276) 431-2206.

The Town of Gate City will be conducting two public hearings in reference to the Park Street housing rehabilitation project. The first public hearing, scheduled for Thursday, March 1st, 2018 at 6:30 PM, is designed to solicit public input on local community development and housing needs in relation to CDBG funding for projects in the town. Information on the amount of funding available, the requirements on the benefit to low- and moderate-income persons, eligible activities, and plans to minimize displacement and provide displacement assistance as necessary, will be available. Citizens will also be given an opportunity to comment on Gate City’s past use of CDBG funds. The second hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, March 13th, 2018 at 6:30 PM, will offer more project-specific information, and will seek public input on the planned CDBG proposal. Both public hearings will be conducted at the Town Hall, located at 156 East Jackson Street, Gate City, Virginia.
